There are cats everywhere in George Town right now, and I don't mean the ones prowling the alleyways looking for scraps at 3am. I mean the painted cats, the sculpted cats, the cat faces looking down at you from walls and corners. Welcome to the 'Lost Kittens' project, and let me tell you — it's the most wholesome street art campaign you could possibly imagine. Penang has always had a thriving stray cat population. Walk through any neighborhood at night and you'll see them — sleek shadows moving through the darkness, quick as ghosts, just trying to survive on whatever food they can scavenge. For years, these cats were mostly invisible to the official city narrative. They were pests or at best ignored fixtures. But then Artists for Stray Animals, this incredible local organization, decided that stray cats deserved to be celebrated, to be seen, to be recognized as part of Penang's living community. So they partnered with street artists and created this 'Lost Kittens' project.
